Music provides a safe and pleasant environment, tearing down communication and social barriers. Due to the functioning of music, my ideal client is verbal and nonverbal/preverbal alike. I specialize in supporting school aged children, ages 5 - 18, with emotional and behavioral disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder. My experience supporting clients of all ages, spans across a variety of settings:

  • school-based emotional & behavioral program

  • school-based autism program

  • school-based severe & multiple disabilities program

  • retirement communities

  • adult day stay

  • hospital care (Intensive Care Unit, Cardiology and Oncology)

  • in-home hospice care

  • high-risk teen center

Together, my clients and I will develop a personalized treatment plan to reach their social, communication, emotional, physical, cognitive, spiritual and musical goals. I highly encourage collaboration with support persons such as parents, siblings, partners, spouses, school staff, other therapists, doctors, etc., to form an interdisciplinary care team, promoting holistic growth.

My approach to music therapy encompasses my education, training and personal life experiences to provide client centered music interventions that are engaging and accessible. Using evidence-based, trauma informed best practices, I support my clients through encouragement, patience and compassion.

As a wife and mom of two children, I find strength and comfort in the joy of my family. You will often find me exploring new playgrounds, enjoying the outdoors or eating my husbands cooking!

Social

Together, we will use music to address social needs. This can include goals such as turn taking, recognizing facial affect, and healthy peer interactions. Together we can discover what challenges you in social situations & where you flourish.

Emotional Regulation

While working towards emotional regulation, we might address emotion identification and discrimination, building self-soothing coping skills or expressing and naming emotions. When we encounter difficulties with self-regulating our emotions, research shows learning to co-regulate is a beneficial and essential stepping stone to more independence.

Cognitive

Music and the brain are deeply connected. Extensive research shows how music enhances our brain's health and functioning. We will use our music to address things such as fluency, working memory and recognition/recall memory. We can build spatial reasoning skills, pattern awareness and academic skills. Music therapy is a leading therapy for supporting those with Intellectual Disabilities & Specific Learning Disabilities.

Musical

We will use music as a tool to reach non-musical goals, however, you innately have much to gain musically throughout your therapy process. We can learn new instruments & how to read music, explore music history & theory, expand musical knowledge & much more. Music and accessibility go hand in hand. We will intertwine your creative interests with your goals!

Communication

Music connects all people, removing communication walls & barriers. The musical therapeutic relationship offers a unique setting to address goals with a plethora of communication tools. This safe space allows us to creatively address things such as conversational skills, speech deficits, consonant sounds, confidence while presenting & more. Music therapy is frequently used when rehabilitating speech following a stroke or building communication skills with Autistic Individuals.

Physical

The holistic nature of music allows us to reach areas of our brain responsible for functions like pain response and initiating & coordinating movement. We can address physical needs such as pain management by guiding somatic responses including our heart rate and breathing with intentional tempo manipulation. Music therapy allows us to improve ambulatory needs such as gait training through this process of entrainment, the act of synchronizing to an external rhythm.

Spiritual

Our therapeutic relationship will aim to provide hope & comfort by celebrating who you are, understanding how you view the world, exploring how you cope with adversity, identifying how you connect with others and recognizing what values drive your daily life. This is the time to challenge yourself to grow in the uncomfortable conversations to reach your full potential.
